HOW TO BECOME A KALS INSIDER

For over 21 years, KALS has been offering the community an array of low-cost, high-interest courses. This volunteer organization is fostering your intellectual and social well being. If you have taken at least a few courses with us, you might wonder how we do it. What goes on behind the scenes?

Please attend our Annual General Meeting on Friday, October 16 from 10:00- 11:30 AM at the Kamloops Sports Council to find out more. Refreshments provided.

The AGM includes board elections, so you will also have the opportunity to join us as

  • KALS program committee member: join the insiders who decide what courses are offered;
  • KALS Zoom class manager:  help run classes lead by experts from across the country and beyond;
  • KALS all-round technical person: put your computer knowledge to work;

Note: these positions come with some free courses!

Meantime, please contact
President Nadine Fort at nadinerfort@gmail.com
with any questions about the AGM or these insider opportunities.

A NOTE ABOUT “Come to the Concert” FROM INSTRUCTOR ROD MICHELL

Come to the Concert is a group of KALS courses based on the current (2026-27) Kamloops Symphony Orchestra season. The aim of each class is to prepare for an upcoming Symphony concert (orchestral or chamber), in this, the orchestra’s 50th Anniversary Season, as well as to increase our familiarity with all aspects of classical music.  We listen to recorded excerpts of the concert works, and explore background to the composers, their times and to the works that will be performed. There is opportunity to ask questions, express opinions, discuss previous concerts, and explore aspects of classical music performance in Kamloops and across Canada.

Those who have been to these classes before will know that they are usually held on the Thursday before the Saturday’s Symphony concert itself. This remains true for this fall’

s series of Come to the Concert classes WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE VERY FIRST CLASS—WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 23.

LOCATION:  Bruce Dunn Hall in KELSON HALL, 330 St. Paul St.

ALL CANDIDATES NIGHT: ARTS AND CULTURE
In the coming weeks, check local media for details on this event, to be held September 12 at the Paramount Theatre and hosted by Kamloops Art Gallery Executive Director Emily Hope. Hear what candidates for the October city election have to say about arts and culture, and make your voice heard.
